Analytics Question: Is google the way to go?

My company has spend a lot of money on our site. The web developers configured google analytics to run on the site, but I think they only did a basic job - because there's a lot of areas where it doesn't seem to give a depth of info.

For instance, the site runs a flash banner at the top of the screen, and analytics doesn't seem to offer any info on how often these are clicked.

We're looking at increasing the depth of info we can get from analytics, but we're wondering if it's better to get our web guys to spend a bit more time [and $] making google analytics fit with our site better, or should we purchase a software program to do it for us? Considering we've spend $40k on our site, the fact that analytics is free isn't TOO much of a factor.

  1. Many people discount Google Analytics because it is free, but it is the best analytics package on the market and the easiest to use.

If you do happen to have another analytics package you are paying for then you may get a different mix of data but always supplement it with Google Analytics so you can double check your data.

Plus Google Analytics is the only place to get Bounce Rate!

  2. I would stick with Google analytics. Nothing else really compares to it. You might need another tool for the banner clicks.
