  1. The most famous trade route was the triangle trade which involved:

       a. From the New England colonies to Africa. They brought

rum and traded it for slaves.

       b. The New England merchants took the slaves to the

Caribbean and exchanged the slaves for molasses and

           sugar, needed to make rum.

       c. They then took the molasses and sugar to New England

to start it all over again.

In order to understand the NATURE of the trade you have

to understand the word the word MERCANTILISM. This

term means that the colony exists for the good of the

         mother country

           1. colonies supply Engand with raw materials wood for

              their wooden ships etc.

           2. England sold its colonies finished products which the

colonies could legally only buy from England. Navigation

              Acts said so.

England's caribbean Colonies were more valuable than

the 13 colonies in trade value. Sugar was the original

white powder of great value. As long as England made

BIG MONEY from their trade they werelax on the trade rules

but after the French Indian War 1756-63. Things would

       change.

         Hope that helps.  Packers.
