Anand Pawar paves way to quarter-finals of Yonex Dutch International 2012
The second day of Yonex Dutch International was certainly a day of double joy for Anand Pawar of India as he reserved his right to be in the quarter-finals of the event by sealing back-to-back victories on April 13, 2012.
The Indian first stamped the Dutch rival Dennis Van Daalen De Jel and then put a halt to the expedition of Danish shuttler Christian Lind Thomsen in second round of the event.
Anand Pawar, who was underdog earlier in this event, will now lock horns with top seeded shuttler Eric Pang of Netherlands in quarter-finals on Saturday, April 14.
In his first round match, the Indian lad buried Dennis Van in just two games with a significant margin of 21-12 and 21-18.
The Dutch was no comparison to young Anand and surrendered after resisting for just 35 minutes.
In opening set, Anand launched a brisk attack and came into commanding position with 10-6 score before the interval. He dictated his challenger after mid-game break and clinched first match point with 21-12 score on the board.
However, the Dutch shuttler showed strong character in second set of match by turning it into a nerve-racking tussle in last moments.
Dennis Van created trouble for his rival by narrowing the gap with 20-18 score but Anand did not lose his nerves and scored the decisive game point to seal the straight-set victory with a 21-18 score.
This splendid win took him to pre quarter-finals where he was up against sixth seeded player of the event Christian Lind but Anand Pawar proved his class against his higher ranked opponent.
The Indian overpowered the Dane in 40-minute tussle with 21-17 and 21-13 score in his favour.
The unseeded player Anand was a bit sluggish in the opening set and Christian Lind savor the opportunity by staying close to his rival with 18-17 score but the Indian geared up himself and reached at final score position 21-17 by clinching three consecutive
points in the end.
However, the following game was bit of a flat contest as Anand hunted his opponent down with scoreboard flashing final margin of 21-13.
The real challenge awaits him in the quarter-finals and the spirited Indian shuttler is fully charged to employ his vital experience and self confidence which he gained from recent success in the French Open 2012.
