Anand Pawar shows exit to Kevin Cordon in Men’s Singles first round of Singapore Open
Anand Pawar, an experienced shuttler from India, showed his tremendous run in the court as he outplayed Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon in Men’s Singles first round encounter at the Singapore Open Super Series 2012 in Singapore, on Wednesday, June 20.
Pawar has been facing a bad patch for the last couple of years and went down in Men’s Singles world rankings. However, he found a good start at the Singapore Open and managed to advance into the second round.
In his first match, Pawar played quivering badminton in first game but found a good flow in the following set and levelled the match. In the deciding game, the Indian put in extra effort and managed to win the match with a tight margin.
On the other hand, Cordon played to his maximum potential and took the first game in a striking fashion. However, he failed to maintain his focus in the match and eventually lost the following games to his rival who won the battle in 49 minutes.
In the first game, the left-handed Cordon showed his class as he played to his maximum speed and took a stunning lead on the score board until the break.
After the interval, the Indian geared up his speed but he could not narrow the game as he failed to created gaps and lost the first game with a big difference of 12-21.
In the second game, Pawar changed his tactics and turned the tables by playing on a different level. He was in commanding position this time and easily took a fascinating lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Pawar continued his staggering run in the court without dropping his speed and took the set with a huge margin of 21-11.
In the deciding set, both men played at their best speed and did not let each other to dominate the pace of rallies. Until the break, the score was close on the board.
After the interval, the gritty Indian showed his tremendous play and managed to bag the game with a close 21-19 score on the board.
Pawar emerged as the winner in three games with a remarkable margin of 12-21, 21-11 and 21-19.
