Anand Pawar stuns Niluka Karunaratne in Men’s Singles semi-final of Dutch International 2012
India’s Anand Pawar showed his elevated performance and secured his berth in Men’s Singles final after beating Sri Lanka’s Niluka Karunaratne in semi-final clash at the Yonex Dutch International 2012 in Netherlands, on Saturday, April 14.
The un-seeded Indian showed a gutsy performance as he put up stunning show and defeated the World Number 51 Niluka, who was the third seed in Men’s Singles main draw of Dutch International.
Pawar was impressive in the court as he played attacking badminton and managed to chuck out his rival by ending the match in three games in 53 minutes.
On the other hand, Niluka could not live up to expectations as he failed to dictate the pace of rallies in the ending points of final set and crashed out at the semi-final stage.
In the opening set, both men played tremendous badminton by keeping the pace of rallies at the maximum speed and progressed closely without managing a comfortable lead until the end of opening half.
After the break, Niluka played positive game with wonderful precision in his shots. He dominated the pace of rallies as Pawar committed a few unforced errors in the concluding phase and lost the set with a margin of 18-21.
In the second set, Pawar was in full swing as he played aggressive and positive badminton and managed to dictate the pace of rallies with an amazing ease. He took a remarkable gap until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Pawar continued his impressive performance without dropping his speed at any stage and bagged the set in a phenomenal by a one-sided margin of 21-12.
In the deciding set, both men played tremendous game and entertained the local fans with their fabulous skills. They remained neck-to-neck until the end of opening half.
After the interval, Pawar showed his brilliancy when he geared up his speed and took over the control of rallies. He played killing badminton and took a reasonable lead.
The in-form Indian maintained his positive run in the final set and won it with a 21-18 score on the board.
Pawar emerged as victorious against Niluka in an impressive manner with an entertaining score of 18-21, 21-12 and 21-18.
