Anand Pawar succeeds while Nandagopal fails to proceed in the Finnish Open 2012 – Badminton News
It was mixed day for India in the Men’s singles event as their shuttler Anand Pawar paved his path to quarter-finals but the other shuttler, K. Nandagopal failed to continue his successful run in the Finnish Open on March 30, 2012.
The spirited shuttler Anand Pawar edged Raul Must from Estonia before Nandagopal went down against Dmytro Zavadsky of Ukraine in second round of the event.
The victorious contender Anand who had a 35-minute tussle just few hours ago displayed his elevated craft and bagged the victory in just two games.
He overpowered his opponent Raul Must by registering a decisive score of 21-15 and 21-16 in just 33 minutes.
The Indian launched a brisk attack in very first set of the match and controlled the game until the last shot was played. Both players remained almost equal during the first half but Anand accelerated his pace in the later half and ended the race by placing
a distinctive margin of 21-15.
The following game was just a replay of the first one and Anand Pawar emerged as quarter-finalist when his rival Raul Must lost the set with a five-point deficit.
On the other hand, the young K. Nandagopal was kicked out by Dmytro Zavadsky of Ukraine.
However, the talented youngster put a great fight against his higher ranked opponent and stood to his full stature in 59-minute tussle.
The Ukrainian shuttler established a quick lead in the opening game of the match with his powerful smashes and deceiving net shots which fetched 14 crucial points for him.
Nandagopal tried to match his pace by gearing up in later half but his final total of 17 points was not enough to stop Dmytro from seizing the first match point with 21-17 score on board.
The Indian shuttler was not harmed with this loss as he stormed back with his gutsy performance in the second set. Nandagopal levelled the lead by ticking final margin of 21-15 in the score log.
The third set turned consequential and both players put all the skills they got to oust their challenger. The match kept swinging between both contenders till first 17 points but Dmytro managed to bring the balance of the match in his favour with a decisive
score of 21-17.
Now India will be looking to avenge a victory when their singles shuttler Anand Pawar plays Dmytro Zavadsky in the quarter-final of the event.
