Anand Pawar terms French Open win an important breakthrough – Badminton News
The young Men’s Singles shuttler of India, Anand Pawar is over the moon after clinching the French International 2012 title as he tagged this win as an important breakthrough in his career.
The talented Indian finally got into a groove after two years and tamed the Malaysian shuttler Misbun Ramdan Misbun in the title match on April 8, 2012.
25-year-old Pawar, who lost his 38th position in the rankings due to his past failures, hopes that this win will help him to elevate his current rankings and the confidence will pump him up to proceed further.
He said, "I have been to world No. 38 before. Things are falling in place now so it's definitely possible to regain that ranking and go beyond that."
World Number 71 shuttler reserved his right to stand at top of the podium by sealing a splendid straight set victory with 21-16 and 21-10 score on the board.
However, his rival put up good show in the opening set as Anand Pawar had to sweat hard to topple the Malaysian finalist Misbun Ramdan. In the next set, he completely dominated his challenger and sealed the crown with great ease.
The talented shuttler was humble enough even after winning the international title and admitted that it was not a smooth ride for him.
Pawar said, "It was not an easy match. I was down but then bounced back into the match and things began to fall in place. Once I got my rhythm going there was no stopping me."
Last time he stole the limelight at international level in Scottish Open 2010 and after a gap of two years he managed to revive his old rhythm by capturing his sixth international title of his career.
Anand Pawar, son of a legendary Uday Pawar, firmly believes that he will pocket the benefits of his recent form and register his class in future events.
He said, "I think it's a good platform for me as I feel I have got my form back after a while and I should try and make the most of it now in the coming weeks and tournaments."
The spirited shuttler will be back home in a few days and start training at his father’s academy, Uday Pawar Badminton Academy, for the three future tournaments of the Dutch International, India Open and Malaysia Open GP Gold.
