Anastasia Kharchenko blasts past Varvara Kuznetsova to enter round two – Potchefstroom ITF 2012
Ukrainian starlet, Anastasia Kharchenko, stomped over the Russian contestant, Varvara Kuznetsova, with double bagels at the Potchefstroom ITF 2012 on Monday. She jolted down a 6-0, 6-0 victory against the Russian to charge into the round of 16 at this ITF
(International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event held in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
Seeded second in this event, Kharchenko proved her class at this outdoor hard court event. She reeled off all 12 games and eventually clinched the match in straight sets to progress.
Kharchenko made a powerful entry at the Fanie Du Toit Stadium. She drew the first blood in the opening game and took the initial lead. The Ukrainian maintained her intensity and reeled following five games consecutively, eventually registering an assuring
6-0 victory. She blocked all three breakpoints she came across and cashed three out of five break chances to get the upper hand.
Ranked 480th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Kharchenko kept her momentum running towards the proceeding set. She against got the critical break in the opening game and put her nose ahead. The Ukrainian unleashed barrage
of groundstrokes again and eventually pocketed the set with another bagel. She was never threatened with any barrier and converted all three break chances to her advantage.
The 22-year-old is bidding for her maiden career title at this tournament.
She will next face the local challenger, Lynn Kiro, who bounced back to outclass the Serbian wild card entrant, Vanja Klaric, in three sets to set up this battle. Kiro found her rhythm after losing the opening set. She went berserk in the deciding set and
eventually pocketed the match with a breadstick.
Later that day, Stephanie Kent of the United States stunned her eighth seeded compatriot, Erin Clark, with a bagel to progress into the second round. She barely sweated to clobber a 6-0, 6-2 success in almost an hour to advance.
Kent made quick in-roads after entering the South African courts. She broke her rival’s entire serves and eventually bagged a bagel.
The unseeded American carried her momentum in the following set and after dominating it, she registered a 6-2 success.
