Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova beats Patricia Mayr-Achleitner to clear round one - Swedish Open 2012
Russian booming starlet, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, ousted the 148th ranked Austrian, Patricia Mayr-Achleitner, to clear the opening round of the Sony Ericsson Swedish Open. It was an easy draw for the fifth seed Russian
who faced no difficulty at all in dumping the 25-year-old Austrian in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
World number 28, Pavlyuchenkova, used an hour and 13 minutes at the clay courts of Bastad, Sweden to slay the former world number 70 from Austria. She played according to the plan and the devastated her competitor completely from
the word go.
The Russian registered a dominating start to the match with a comprehensive serve hold and broke serve to take an early lead. An exchange of breakthroughs in the following two games kept her lead intact as she moved on with another
serve hold that posted a resounding lead of 4-1 in her favour.
Achleitner was impressive with her shots at the start but committed too many unforced errors in the latter half of the set that drowned her confidence. She lost another game on her serve with the score of 30:40 and that proved
to be the final action from the first half of the match.
A swap of breakthroughs coupled with a serve hold and another successful serve break for the Russian registered an unassailable lead of 3-1 for her at the start. She didn’t look back from that stage and continued to power down
her rival with her forceful forehand winners. The helpless Austrian could only see the ball sail past her at a storming speed.
Scores moved on to 5-2 without much drama and the Austrian served to keep the match alive but the deadly onslaught from the fifth seed Russian closed all doors of any comeback for her. She dropped another breakpoint and that was
the last game of the Swedish Cup for the Austrian.
On the other hand, the Russian starlet is scheduled to take on the likes of the Spanish star, Silvia Soler-Espinosa, in the following round of the tournament. It will be a much more competitive match considering the proximity of
the game style of both players.
