Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova claims effortless victory over Elena Bovina in 2nd round – Baku Cup 2011
Thursday, July 21, 2011 was the continuation of the second round of Baku Cup 2011. Kicking off; the match was set between the two Russians, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Elena Bovina at the Baku Tennis Academy, Baku, Azerbaijan.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won the match in a run of the mill victory of 6-4, 6-0 in under seventy one minutes.
This was not the first time both the players were facing each other. They had previously met at Stockholm were they battled it out on hard outdoor courts. Anastasia had won the match 2-6 6-2 6-4. The Higher Power gave a chance
to Elena to even their head to head score. However, that was a short lived dream of the fans and hers.
The match was a close tie as neither of the players hit an ace, Elena won the toss; serving first, she struck three double faults out of which two were line faults and the other hit the net. Elena had managed to keep an above average
serve however, lacked in her return game. The 28-year-old Russian managed to win only two break points and was able to save only two. Anastasia’s accuracy faltered five times; striking two line faults and three hitting net. Even though Anastasia had a very
poor accuracy she still managed to win the game as she had excellent serve points and her return game was above average. Although she was able to save only one break point advantage she won three and hence, got an upper hand, winning the set 6-4.
After getting a beating in the first set one would’ve expected Elena to play even better and equalize the set score 1-1 however, that was a utopian dream. As she not only got tired but also lost hope! Serving first with great confidence was
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova she opened the score card 1-0 and although her accuracy was shaky she only struck two double faults hitting the net. She played an excellent serve winning seventy one percent of her total serve points. The crowd saw Anastasia as a
wall at the back of the court which re-coiled everything that came its way; she played an exceptional return winning seventy five percent of her total return points. Additionally, her defence was strong as an ox and did not give a single break point to her
opponent and instead won seventy five percent of her break point advantages and closed the set on her opponent 6-0.
Summing it up; Elena had tried to dominate Anastasia in the first set but that didn’t go to well instead Anastasia jumped right back into the game during the first set and beat Elena to it. In the second set Anastasia had worked
on taking any opportunity that came her way. She also had above average service points along with exceptional return points and defence she won the second set effortlessly.
World number 88, Anastasia Yakimova, will now be facing the Kazakh Galina Voskoboeva, in the quaterfinal of the Baku Cup 2011.
