Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova thrashes Ksenia Pervak in round one – Internazionali BNL D’Italia 2012
Russian booming star, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, triumphed over the Kazakhstani competitor, Ksenia Pervak, in straight sets at the Internazionali BNL D’Italia 2012 on Monday. She nudged up a 6-2, 6-4 score line against the world number 38 to power into the
second round at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Mandatory event taking place in Rome, Italy.
Pavlyuchenkova displayed brilliant abilities and after dominating in one hour and 32-minute marathon, she downed the Kazakh in their third outing. After earning this success, the Russian not only avenged her loss at the Qatar Ladies Open earlier this season
but also took lead in the head-to-head series by 2-1 against Pervak.
26th ranked Pavlyuchenkova thundered into Foro Italico and earned the desiderated break early on to jump to a 3-0 lead. She then held her remaining serves with conviction and capitalised on her second break chance in the last game to pull out
the opener with a 6-2 score line.
The 20-year-old Russian maintained her intensity in the proceeding set and went on a four-game rampage before Pervak could grab a break back. Despite squandering her edge in the ninth game, Pavlyuchenkova cashed in another break opportunity in the last game
and pocketed the set by winning six games to four.
All in all, the Russian spilled fewer double faults and clobbered a higher first serve share of 69 per cent as compared to her rival’s 66 per cent and amazingly availed 28 out of 48 points on it. She also warded off six out of eight breakpoints she faced
and capitalised on five out of eight break opportunities to earn the limelight.
Next challenge for Pavlyuchenkova is the Wimbledon titlist, Petra Kvitova, who received a bye into the second round after being the fourth seed at this event.
The Spanish number one, Anabel Medina Garrigues, crippled China’s Jie Zheng with a breadstick to accompany Pavlyuchenkova in the second round. She smoothly swiped in her entire serves and cashed in half of the eight break opportunities to register a 6-2,
6-1 success. Medina Garrigues produced an amazing first serve share of 74 per cent and availed 25 out of 35 points on it.
