Anastasia Pivovarova outclasses Stephanie Dubois in 1st qualifying round – Sony Ericsson Open 2012
Russian starlet, Anastasia Pivovarova, outclassed the 25-years-old Canadian competitor, Stephanie Dubois, in a classic three-setter. The match was played in the hard courts of Miami during the first qualifying round of the Sony
Ericson Open. Match ended with 1-6, 6-4, 6-0.
Dubois rocked the show in the first part of the encounter. She broke serve in the second game of the match and dragged along to build a lead of 3-0 upfront. The Russian managed a serve hold in the fourth game but her serve was
broken again in the sixth game that gave the Canadian a resounding lead of 5-1.
An easy serve hold for the Canadian set the tone for her as she marched on with a set lead. The pressure was on the 21-years-old Russian who was struggling to make an impact; her confidence received battering in the first set but
she didn’t lose heart and kept on fighting.
The second set witnessed an early breakthrough for the Russian who went on to consolidate her position with a lead of 3-0. Unfortunately, her serve was broken in the fifth game that allowed an opportunity for the 89th
ranked Canadian to diminish the trail; serve hold in the following game tied the scores at 3-3.
An exchange of breakthroughs kept the scores together at 4-4; immense pressure was on the Russian who had to sneak a breakpoint in order to level the set scores. She stayed calm and demolished the superior ranked Canadian in the
10th game of the set; won four points on the trot to register the most crucial breakthrough and more importantly tie the set scores.
Stage was set for a classic third set battle but the Canadian player couldn’t absorb the pressure. She lost three breakpoints on the trot and wasn’t able to break her opponent’s serve that registered a thumping bagel against her.
She was routed off the tournament in the opening qualifying round.
Anastasia Pivovarova contests against the Czech player, Eva Brinerova, in the next round clash. Birnerova defeated Kristina Barrios of Germany in the first qualifying round clash of the tournament.
