Anastasia Prokopenko grabs Women’s Singles title at Maldives International Badminton Challenge 2012
Russia's talented young player Anastasia Prokopenko put up wonderful show when she overpowered the Mette Poulsen of Denmark in the Women’s Singles contest at the European Club Championships 2012 in Hungary, on Saturday, June 2.
Prokopenko, who was impressive throughout the championship, showed her brilliance in the court and toppled her Danish opponent who failed to live up to expectations and lost the match with a respectable margin.
The in-form Russian lady found a good start in opening game and took it but lost the second set. However, she found her flow back in the final set and won the match in hard-fought rubber games by taking 61 minutes in the court.
In the meanwhile, the Danish could not show her class in first game but found her focus in the second set. However, she remained confused in the third game and could not play well and eventually lost the contest to her Russian opponent with a decent difference.
In the opening set, both shuttlers started their run in a positive manner but it was the Russian who showed her impressive performance and took a remarkable lead on the score board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Poulsen tried to live up to expectations but failed to create pressure on her Russian rival who remained on track and won the set with a huge margin of 21-14.
In the following set, the Danish shuttler came into the court with a completely different strategy as she played impressive badminton at net while remaining quick in all areas.
Until the interval, impressive Danish was leading the game with a reasonable margin.
After the break, the Russian tried her best but failed to stop the aggressive run of her Danish opponent and lost the set with a 19-21 score on the board.
In the deciding set, Prokopenko played better badminton and she did not let her Danish opponent to take lead until the break.
After the interval, Prokopenko played with precision and also remained positive in the court. She managed to push her challenger in all areas of the court and remained successful in winning the set with a tight margin of 21-19.
Prokopenko defeated Poulsen in hard-fought three games with a 21-14, 19-21 and 21-19 score on the board.
