Anastasia Prokopenko wins Women’s Singles crown in the Denmark International 2011 – Badminton News
Russia’s Women’s Singles ace shuttler, Anastasia Prokopenko, has won the Women’s Singles crown after beating Agnese Allegrini of Italy in the final of the Denmark International 2011, in Denmark, on Sunday, May 8.
The number three seed, Anastasia, delivered a remarkable performance in the final showdown against the seventh seed, Allegrini, who trounced Chloe Magee of Ireland, in the semi-final of the event. Anastasia won the first title of the senior category in any
international event in Denmark.
The Russian managed to make a good start in the opening set of the match. She was leading the game at 6-2, where the Italian accelerated her speed and took control over the rallies. She managed to reduce the difference by reaching 8-9, where the third seed
scored two points in a row to establish a three-point lead at 11-8.
Anastasia kept her control on the pace of the rallies and made the opponent move around the court. She stretched her lead to 15-10, where Allegrini played a better game and reached 13-15. The third seed started to employ powerful smashes coupled with spinning
net strokes, which earned her four consecutive points. She won the opening game in 25 minutes with a 21-15 margin.
In the following set, the Italian changed her tactics and kept the pace high from the starting points of the match. She managed to take a 2-point lead by reaching 6-8. At this stage of the game, Anastasia became quicker at the net and kept the bird low.
Anastasia executed perfect high clears in the rear court that put Allegrini in trouble. At the end of the opening half of the second set, the Russian was leading the game by an 11-9 difference.
The third seed extended her lead after the one-minute break and reached 16-11. It was a good fight as both shuttlers were playing positively, keeping the opponent in defensive position. However, it was Anastasia who worked well in the dying moments of the
game and finished the set 21-15, in just 20 minutes. The match ended in 45 minutes with the scoreline of 21-15 and 21-15.
