Anastasia Rodionova crushes Edina Gallovits-Hall to sail into the third round – French Open 2011
Anastasia Rodionova looked in stunning form on Wednesday as she made quick work of Romanian Edina Gallovits-Hall 6-1, 6-4 to make it through to the third round of 2011 French Open in Paris.
Ranked 74th in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings, Rodionova may have had a tough time on the tour lately but showed no signs of decay as she required only one hour eleven minutes to floor the challenger.
The Australian tennis-pro started the match on a very positive note. She broke the serve early in the opening set to take control of things. 11 costly unforced errors in the set pushed Edina on the back foot. Rodionova in contrast
continued to play exciting tennis and extended her game score lead with another serve break on her opponent’s serve break.
Leading the game score 4-1 in the set, she needed only a couple of games to wrap up the opener. A break of serve and a successful conversion of her next serve game let the 29-year-old bag the set 6-1.
As strong show in the following set, allowed Edina to find a way back into the match. She broke Rodionova despite her woes as she took a crucial game score lead in the set. However showing great temperament and ability to handle
pressure, Rodionova broke back twice to re-establish herself in the contest. She was definitely the more positive of the two players as she approached the net more often than her opponent to win crucial points.
With a big forehand winner down the line, she set up three match points and then converted the second one to ensure her place in the third round of prestigious Majors tournament.
With strong baseline play and rock solid defence the Australian was able to get the better of her opponent and clinch vital points. Her first serve conversion was as good as 68 per cent while she also managed to win 56 per cent
of the points on serve return to take the match beyond her opponent’s reach. Edina committed 20 unforced errors during the contest which of course led to her downfall. The Romanian must work hard on her weak serve to yield better results on the tour.
The running season has proved to be quite a poor one for Rodionova as she struggled to give significant performances throughout the year. Her best performance of the year 2011 was recorded at WTA Rome Masters where she reached
the second round before losing to world number one Caroline Wozniacki.
In order to make it to the final stages here at Roland Garros she must up her game play. Vera Zvonareva will be the challenge that she must overcome to advance into the fourth round of French Open for the first time in her career.
