Anastasia Rodionova is gearing up for the upcoming season – Tennis News
Australian veteran, Anastasia Rodionova, is eyeing to improve her form for the upcoming season. She is currently on a tight training schedule with her friend Cara Black.
The former world number 62, Rodionova is currently training with the former world number one in doubles, Cara Black. She is trying to found her 2010 rhythm and looking forward to reach far in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) events in 2013.
She stated in a social networking site, “Just finished 2,5h practice with Cara Black in 31 degrees heat. She is a machine! Now well deserved beach time!!”
Currently ranked 139th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Rodionova had a dismal season on the WTA tour in 2012 but managed to reach in the ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit events.
The Aussie started 2012 campaign’s standing outside the Top 100. Rodionova crashed out from opening round against top seeded Caroline Wozniacki at the Australian Open but cracked the Top 100.
The 30-year-old’s miserable run of form continued in the following tournaments as she exited from the qualifying competition at the Qatar Ladies Open, Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, BNP Paribas in Indian Wells and the Sony Ericsson Open.
Rodionova lifted her game in the clay court season and secured a third round berth at the Family Circle Cup. She stunned 10th seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues but lost to former world number one Venus Williams in the round of 16. As a result, the
Aussie jumped to world number 94.
However, the Russian-born Rodionova lost her track again and fell to a six match losing streak. She was edged out from the opening round at the e-Boks Sony Ericsson Open in Copenhagen, Grand Prix De SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem in Fes, Mutua Madrid Open,
Internazionali BNL D’Italia in Rome and the French Open.
The veteran snapped out from her bad patch in the grass court season. She battled past the American qualifier, Abigail Spears, in a three-set thriller at the AEGON Classic. However, she got off track again and bowed out to top seed Maria Sharapova in opening
round of the Wimbledon Championships. As a result, she fell outside the Top 150.
Rodionova managed to capture her maiden grand slam win in 2012 at the US Open where she crushed the local wild card entrant Julia Cohen with a bagel.
The Aussie then cruised to semi-finals at the Las Vegas ITF before losing to second seed Lauren Davis. She maintained her form at the Ismaning ITF in Germany and secured a final eight berth.
