Anastasia Rodionova outplays Pauline Parmentier in the qualifying final – Cincinnati Open 2011
Russian born Aussie Anastasia Rodionova secures a berth in the main draw of the Cincinnati Open 2011 by outplaying the French Pauline Parmentier in a 7-5, 6-2 victory at the Lindner Family Tennis
Centre in Mason, Ohio in 1 hour, 21 minutes and 28 seconds.
Commencing the first set was Parmentier who opened the score to 1-0 by smashing an ace and struck 2 more aces during the set, along with a foot fault, whereas, Rodionova had struck on net ball and an ace.
Winning 73% in her second serve gave an edge to Rodionova, who accomplished 65% of her total service points in the set against the French who had bagged a 6% fewer points, making it 55% win in her total service points.
Although, Rodionova had very poor return points in her first return but she managed to slice some good drop shots in her second return which won her 71% points in the second return, which eventually gave her a leverage towards
her total return score, making it an average 41% in her total return points.
Moreover, Parmentier saved 1 out of the 3 break points; she was able to capitalize on the only break point given to her by the Aussie Rodionova, who was able to break her opponent twice.
By achieving 35% of her total return points, Parmentier lost the set with 4 fewer points than her Aussie opponent, who accomplished 53% wins in her total set points.
After winning the first set, Rodionova found a new confidence in her game and smashed her way to her victory in the next 38 minutes. Her strong ground strokes enabled her to achieve a walloping 94% win in her first service
points and 84% in her total service points, while, Parmentier, clinched only 12 out of 25 points, making it an average 48% win in the total service points.
In addition, Rodionova’s return was not as stunning as her serve but she still managed to bag an above average 52% of her total return points, in comparison to the French who attained 3 out of 19, which came to be a mere
16% win in the total return points.
Mean while, the 25 year-old was only able to save 2 out of the 6 break points she faced, along with only breaking her opponent once, she lost the set with a good 18 fewer points in her total set score.
Although, the 29-year-old Australian was not able to save the two break points on her serve but was capable to convert 4 out of 6 break points to her advantage and gained a competitive edge over her French opponent, and the
edge aided her in winning the second set with a 57% win in her total set points.
Anastasia Rodionova secured a place in the main draw of the event which will be played on Monday.
