Anastasia Zueva shines in Women’s 50m back-stroke meet: Day four – 2011 FINA World Championships
Russia’s Anastasia Zueva stunned the crown in Shanghai with her impressive performance in the Women’s 50m Back-Stroke preliminary meet on day four of the 2011 FINA World Championships in China, on Tuesday, July 26.
In the corresponding meet, Zueva notched the title after she completed her swim and touched the finishing wall in a winning time of 28.20 seconds. Speaking about her performance, Zueva said that she was really excited with her effort in the event.
Previously, Zueva took home two silver medals in the Women’s 100m and 200m back-stroke categories at the 2009 editions of the event, in Rome. In addition, she grabbed two gold medals in the 50m and 100m back-stroke races at the 2008 European Championships,
in Eindhoven.
In the corresponding event, Zhou Yanxin of China was placed second in a time of 28.24 seconds, whereas, Yanxin’s team-mate, Gao Chang finished third after ending her swim in 28.27 seconds.
Talking about her effort in the meet, Chang said, “My swim was not as good as I expected, maybe because I was not in best shape. It's really a pity that I didn't make to the 100 back semi-finals, so I hope I would do better in the 50m. When I saw Zhao Jing
touched home first in the 100m backstroke final last night, I felt very excited and happy.”
Chang has won one silver and one bronze medal at the 2005 and 2009 editions of the meet in Montreal and Rome, respectively. She also snared one gold medal in the 4x100m medley relay at the 2010 Short Course Worlds (25m), in Dubai.
Meanwhile, Aya Terakawa of Japan wound up fourth in 28.34 seconds and Elizabeth Pelton of United States settled fifth in a time of 28.35 seconds. Aliaksandra Herasimenia finished seventh in a time of 28.38 seconds, whereas, Emily Seebohm of Australia and
Georgia Davies of Great Britain settled for a tie with a time of 28.39 seconds.
The session concluded after the completion of all scheduled swimming events, while the winners received awards and accolades for their impressive performances in the meets.
