Anastasija Sevastova defeats Swedish Sofia Arvidsson in 2nd round – Texas Open 2011
Latvian Anastasija Sevastova won in straight sets of 7-6(4), 6-4 against Swedish Sofia Arvidsson in the second round of the Texas Open 2011. The two were meeting for the second time on the hard courts of Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine,
Texas.
Prior to this event the two had taken up the gauntlet in 2010 at Charleston, where Arvidsson had won in a comprehensive victory of 6-1, 6-2 and taken the lead in the head-to-head. The players crossed paths again on the hard courts
of the Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine, Texas at the Texas Open 2011.
Serving first Arvidsson’s precession faltered once and she struck one line fault, while, her opponent also committed one double fault.
Arvidsson was able to win a commendable 69% percent of the total service points opening the set and also succeeded to impress with her return serve, against the Latvian, who had a pitiable return of 31% win in the total return
points.
Although, Arvidsson managed to break her opponent once and secured a 51% win in the total set points, she was unable to win the set as by smashing a single ace in the set Sevastova pushed the set into a tiebreaker and fortunately
won the tie break 6-4.
After plummeting in the first set, the crowd expected Arvidsson to bounce back in the second; however that was just wishful thinking.
The Swede’s performance had further corroded, attaining only 37% of her total service points; she had achieved better return points that were 14 out of 27, making it an above average win of 52% in the total return points.
Mean while, the Latvian had a mediocre performance in her serves and managed to bag 48% of her total service points but with an impressive return serve that alleviated her overall score she bagged the set with a 63% win in the
total return points.
Even though, Sofia had accomplished to convert 60% of her break points, she had broken her opponent’s serve only thrice, while, Sevastova had broken Arvidsson to 4 times to gain the statistical edge that she required.
By hindering her adversary to only four games in the set, the Latvian took a 2-0 lead and because of her strong defence along with, availing every opportunity that came her way, she was able to secure a place in the third round
of the Texas Open 2011.
