Anastasija Sevastova reigns over TamarineTanasugarn in 1st round – Texas Open 2011
Kicking off on the 21st of August 2011 was the main draw of the Texas Open 2011. Thai TamarineTanasugarn played against Latvian Anastasija Sevastova. Both the players rivalled it out at the Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine,
Texas. The Latvian won the match is straight sets of 6-4, 6-4 against her Thai opponent.  
Their first meeting was in 2009 on the hard courts of the US Open, Sevastova had won the match with 6-3, 7-5. The two had taken to the courts once prior to this event and were acquainted with each other’s technique and method of
play. Tanasugarn had been given a chance to equalize their head-to-head and to avenge her loss but alas, she was unable to outshine from her Latvian opponent.  
Both the players had double faulted but Sevastova had managed to hit 3 aces in one game and was able to secure a flawless victory without any opposition. Sevastova won the pitch and was able to target 53% of her first serves, while,
Tanasugarn had 54% of her shots on target.
Although, both the players had won excellent points in their first serves with Tanasugarn with 71% win and 21 year-old Sevastova had a 61%, the Latvian edged in the numbers because she also had a commendable performance in her
second serve points. Hence, she attained a praiseworthy win of 65% in her total service points. Whereas, the Thai also achieved 62% win of her total service points.
The 21 year-old Latvian played ground shots that dropped at the far right edge of the court which made it impossible for her opponent to return, enabling her to achieve an average win of 38% in her total returns. Mean while, the
34-year-old Thai barely achieved to get 12 out of 34 points, making it a 35% win in her total return points.
Even though, the points of both the players were extremely close, Sevastova had gained an upper hand because she was able to save 1 break point on her serve and broke her opponents serve twice, capitalizing on a hundred percent
of break points won.
Sevastova won because of a relatively better serve and return and also because she was able to accomplish 53% of her total set points, along with, 4 more points than her Thai adversary.
The second set of the match was also a comprehensive victory for the Latvia as this she was able to commit one fewer double fault than the previous set and again bagged a game by hitting three aces in the same game. Mean while,
the 34 year-old Thai smashed zero aces and struck two double faults hitting the net. 
The 21 year-old Latvia hit a number of back hand strokes, returning all the shots aimed at her by Tanasugarn, which enabled her to win an above average 45% of her total return points, against her rival, who had an above average
win of 55% in her total service points.
Unable to play the Latvia’s serves and was intimidated by her opponent’s technique, the Thai clenched a pathetic 39% of her total return points, while, Sevastova bagged 61% win in her total service points.
The Latvia was in her form, with the crowd promoting her performance throughout the set she broke her opponent twice and won the match with 53% win in her total set points.
