Anastasiya Vasylyeva outfoxes Leia Kaukonen in the opening round – OrtoLaakarit Open 2011
Ukrainian Anastasiya Vasylyeva dusted away a local tennis star Leia Kaukonen with double breadsticks at the OrtoLaakarit Open 2011, an ITF Women’s Circuit taking place on the hard courts in Helsinki, Finland. She clobbered a 6-1,
6-1 victory over the Finn youngster to secure a second round spot on Tuesday.
Ranked 391st in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier rankings, Vasylyeva breezed past the Finn in just forty-eight minutes and secured a second round spot.
19-year-old Ukrainian stormed into the opening set and after hammering angled shots, she went on five games killing spree before Kaukonen could hold on. She then kept her serve in the last game and earned a breadstick in almost
twenty minutes.
Vasylyeva faced zero breakpoint and capitalised on two out of seven breakpoint opportunities to her advantage. In addition to this, she manifested a much better first serve share of 70 percent as compared to the Finn’s 54 percent
and registered a magnificent 71 percent win on it.
The Ukrainian youngster carried her winning ways in the final set and got the coveted break in the opening game. She let her spark lit and continued wiping out next three games to make the score line 4-0. Vasylyeva then held her
serve in the sixth game and broke the Finn’s serve again, sealing the victory by handing another breadstick.
She again rushed to bag entire serves without any breakpoint and cashed all three breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to register this amazing score line. Furthermore, the Ukrainian capitalised on the several unforced errors
Kaukonen committed and jolted down a better first serve share of 64 percent as opposed to Finn’s 43 percent. Vasylyeva put a cherry on the set by earning a spectacular 78 percent win on it.
Next up for the Ukrainian is the winner of the match between seventh seeded German Annika Beck and Slovakia’s Michaela Honcova.
Alexandra Artamonova also advanced into the round of sixteen, after blasting past Great Britain’s Nicola George with a breadstick.
She just required one hour and twenty-three minutes, stomping over the British on their first face-to-face. The Russian fended off five out six breakpoints came across and converted five out of eight breakpoint opportunities to
her advantage.
19-year-old Artamonova manipulated a lower first serve share of 52 percent as compared to George’s 58 percent and manipulated an impressive 66 percent win on it. Above these, regardless of committing more double faults and unforced
errors, the Ukrainian smacked four aced, setting up a clash between the winner of the match between fourth seeded Israeli Julia Glushko and Russian Valeria Solovieva.
