Anastasiya Vasylyeva outshines Daria Mironova to reach semis –
Antalya ITF 2012
Ukrainian wild card entrant, Anastasiya Vasylyeva, triumphed over the eighth seed, Daria Mironova, with a breadstick at the Antalya ITF 2012 on Saturday. She penned down a 6-1, 6-2 victory against the Russian to power into the
semi-finals at this ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Antalya, Turkey.
Seeded top in this event, Vasylyeva barely sweated in the opening set before carving out the victory in their first encounter. After recording the victory in almost one hour, the Ukrainian comfortably advanced into the final-four
round at this outdoor clay court event.
Vasylyeva unleashed flurry of groundstrokes after entering the Go Tennis Academy. She reeled off the opening five games before Mironova could come on the score sheet. The Ukrainian then plucked her serve once again and eventually
sealed the opener with a breadstick. She blocked the only breakpoint she came across and converted two out of five break opportunities to her advantage.
Ranked 321st in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Vasylyeva kept her momentum rolling in the following set. She got the critical break in the opening game and took the initial lead. The Ukrainian
lost her edge in the very next game but quickly counterattacked and took the lead again. Apart from losing her edge in the very next game, Vasylyeva remained focused and went on a four-game tear. She failed to block both breakpoints she encountered but availed
four out of six break chances to achieve her goal.
The left-handed Ukrainian devastated France’s Manon Arcangioli in three sets to progress. She displayed flawless tennis to register this spectacular victory in almost one and a half hour.
Next up for Vasylyeva is the French challenger, Irina Ramialison, who recorded a 6-4, 3-0 retirement victory against Russia’s Tamara Bizhukova to set up this meeting.
Ioana Loredana Rosca from Romania will accompany Vasylyeva in the final four. The Romanian qualifier stunned fifth seed, Ksenia Palkina, in a three-set thriller to advance.
She will square off against the seventh seed, Victoria Kan from Russia. The seeded Russian upset the third seed, Katerina Kramperova, in straight sets.
