Anastasiya Vasylyeva triumphs over Irina Ramialison to reach final – Antalya ITF 2012
Ukrainian starlet, Anastasiya Vasylyeva, battled past the French rising star, Irina Ramialison, in a three-set thriller at the Antalya ITF 2012 on Sunday. She summed up a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(7) score line against the world number 594 to power into the final round at this ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Antalya, Turkey.
Seeded top in this event, Vasylyeva displayed exceptional skills to overpower the French in their second meeting at this outdoor clay court tournament. The contestants previously met each other at the Macon ITF event in France and after bagging this match, the Ukrainian improved to a 2-0 record in the head-to-head series against Ramialison.
The highest ranked player of the tournament, Vasylyeva high-spiritedly entered the Go Tennis Academy. She made a sloppy start and gifted away her serve in the opening game. Despite levelling the scores in the very next game, Ramialison broke her rival’s serve again and took a 2-1 lead. However, the Ukrainian went berserk after that and reeled off five games in a row. Vasylyeva brushed off one out of three breakpoints she came across but cashed four out of six break chances to record a 6-2 success.
The 21-year-old rebounded in the following set. She lost her opening serve but quickly counterattacked in the very next game. Ramialison then held her composure and swiped her remaining serves with conviction. She got the breakthrough in the fourth game and subsequently pulled out the equaliser with a 6-4 score line. She failed to ward off the only breakpoint she came across but converted two out of three break chances to her advantage.
In the final set, both contestants displayed their best tennis. Vasylyeva exchanged three serve breaks before dragging the set to a tie-breaker, She dominated in it before clicking the decider with a 7-6(7) score line.
Ranked 321st in the WTA Premier Rankings, Vasylyeva will face off the seventh seed, Victoria Kan. The seeded Russian made an epic comeback from a set down to overpower the Romanian qualifier, Ioana Loredana Rosca. She recorded a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 success against the qualifier.
