Ancelotti Blames Lack Of Desire, Part 1
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti confessed that his players were not showing enough desire to win during their recent poor performances. The Italian manager will welcome back captain John Terry and the influential midfielder Michael Essien today, for the home
fixture against Everton. The match has been described as the “most important game of the season” by Ancelotti, who is well aware that a loss today will end the Blues hopes of winning the Premier League crown. The former AC Milan manager admitted that he was
disappointed with his squad and the attitude they had displayed in the absence of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Michael Essien. The Blues managed just one point from a possible nine without the missing players, which Ancelotti blamed at the player’s lack of
desire.
John Terry and Essien are expected to return today, while Frank Lampard still has to wait two weeks before he can make his return. Ancelotti said while speaking to reporters,
“Terry, Lampard and Essien are very important men in the squad. But I think that without them, we could have done better. We weren't 100 per cent focused in the games we didn't win. There wasn't a 100 per cent desire to win. You can have desire at 99 per
cent but it's not enough. At this particular moment of our season, you have to have the desire to move on 100 per cent. Our desire at Newcastle was not at 100 per cent. Terry could make the difference, but I don't think that one player can do that – we have
to play as a team and have the support of everyone.”
Ancelotti is not the type of manager who criticizes his players, a pleasant change from the Special One, who wasted no opportunity to compare his players to eggs. Thus, the remarks in the recent press conference were a little surprising and showed just how
frustrated he was with his side’s recent slump. The Blues don’t have a single problem area; they have failed to score goals, conceded easy goals and seem to have lost their dominance in midfield, which was once considered their stronghold. They do not even
resemble the team which started the season with a bang, scoring six goals in their opening matches and maintaining a lead at the top. In their last five matches they have just managed to score two goals and are now no longer Premier League leaders.
