Ancelotti Disappointed, While Moyes Delighted With 1-1 Draw
Chelsea's boss Carlo Ancelotti was disappointed with his side’s 1-1 draw against Everton at Stamford Bridge yesterday. The Blues took the lead in the first half, with Drogba successfully converting a penalty. However, Everton equalized near the end of the
second half. Ancelotti had described this match as very important and the Italian knew that anything less than a win would mean the end of Chelsea’s hopes of winning the Premier League title.
Ancelotti told the reporters in a post-match press conference, “The second half was poor, we did not play how we wanted, just long ball and that is not the way we play. I am disappointed because we did not play our football. The spirit was good in the
first half, we did not have a lot of chances but we worked hard and had good tactical discipline.”
He continued, “I have to understand why we did not play in the second half. After the break it was totally different. We were not in control for the second goal - we lost discipline and they could have won the game on the counter attack. I am worried
yes, because we haven't won a lot of games. The second half was totally wrong. We have to do better.”
Chelsea’s last win in the Premier League was against Fulham in November; since then they suffered losses to Sunderland and Birmingham and draws against Newcastle United and Everton. He continued,
“The result was not good, we wanted to win but we are still living in a difficult moment. We have to stay focused and use our next game to move on from this period.”
Ancelotti was of course referring to the upcoming fixtures, Chelsea take on London rivals Tottenham at White Hart Lane on 12th December and then welcome second place Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on the following Sunday. The Blues will
then take on Arsenal on 27th December; this list of fixtures may very well decide who wins the Premier League title this season.
While Ancelotti was disappointed with his side, his counterpart at Everton, David Moyes, was somewhat relieved. It is hard to remember when the last time Everton won a Premier League game; the Toffees have either lost or drawn their last six matches. But
after losing 4-1 to West Brom last week, a draw against the Blues didn’t seem too bad.
David Moyes said while speaking to reporters, “Our performance in the second half was terrific and we bounced back after the poor game last weekend. The players showed great attitude and never gave up. The second half we deserved the result. Chelsea
had a few chances but then you expect that. It was tough for us in the first-half.”
He was happy with his side’s fighting spirit and revealed his joy at getting a point at Stamford Bridge, which seemed close to impossible in the first half and start of the second. He continued,
“The quality of our decisions in the final third probably cost us winning the game. We have to prove it because we have not done it often enough. It is not enough for me but it is a start. But after last week I am delighted to have come away with a point.”
