Ancelotti Disappointed With The Blues
Chelsea's boss Carlo Ancelotti said in a post-match press conference that he felt his side were afraid during the second half of the clash against Everton. The game ended 1-1 as Everton grabbed an equalizer in the second half. Chelsea have now taken only
five points from a possible 18 and have failed to win in their last Premier League games.
Ancelotti said while speaking to reporters, “We started to be scared when Everton put pressure on us. This period is not easy but we are close to the top and do not have to be worried as we were in the second half.” The Blues have tough fixtures
ahead as they take on Tottenham Hotspurs, Manchester United and Arsenal, which will decide their season.
Chelsea got off to a terrific start, winning their opening five games and scoring 21 goals in the process. They maintained the lead in the Premier League until recently, their draw against Newcastle saw the defending champions slip to third place on the
table. The sudden change in form has the Italian manager worried, and understandably so.
Ivoirian striker Didier Drogba put the Blues ahead with a penalty, which he took with determination and force. Chelsea were clearly the better side in the first half, the defense seemed solid with the return of John Terry, Michael Essien made his presence
felt as Chelsea were dominating in midfield again and the forwards had countless shots on goal.
However, things changed dramatically in the second half. What Ancelotti called fear may very well have been over confidence. Whatever it was, cost the Blues precious points, which could signal the end of their hopes of regaining the Premier League crown.
There may still be hope, that is if Chelsea improve their form and Manchester United and Arsenal run into bad luck.
The Italian manager was disappointed with his side, he said, “The second half was poor, we did not play how we wanted, just long ball and that is not the way we play. I am disappointed because we did not play our football. The spirit was good in the
first half, we did not have a lot of chances but we worked hard and had good tactical discipline.”
He continued, “I have to understand why we did not play in the second half. After the break it was totally different. We were not in control for the second goal - we lost discipline and they could have won the game on the counter attack. I am worried
yes, because we haven't won a lot of games. The second half was totally wrong. We have to do better.”
