Ancelotti Happy To Welcome Back John Terry, In Time For The Everton Clash
Captain John Terry was told that he would never be entirely free of the nerve problem which has kept him out for over four weeks. The Chelsea skipper is training hard and is expected to return against Everton today. The game is very important for the Blues;
a loss today at Stamford Bridge would mean Ancelotti’s side will be out of the title race.
Ancelotti criticized his side for their poor performance, which saw them secure four points out of a possible 15 in the previous month. The Italian was disappointed with the Blues, who showed extremely poor organization without John Terry, who missed five
matches because of his injury. He was told the only cure for it was rest; however he is ready to return now.
John Terry is turning 30 soon and has been advised to adopt a new training program so that he can cope with his nerve problem. Ancelotti said while speaking to reporters,
“This is the right way. For the rest of his career he has to have control of his body. He has to do individual work to protect his back. He has to manage it all the time to maintain good strength in his glutes but the problem has gone.”
He added, “The integrity of his body is good. He is playing without pain, without tablets, without injections. He went once to Milan and, after that, he's had treatment with our staff. Maybe he won't be 100 % in the next game because he has only trained
for three days but that is not important because he brings other things. He can speak across the defensive line; he can instruct and lead the team.”
The Italian was happy with John Terry’s return and was confident that his arrival would improve the squad and their performance. He continued,
“He is our captain. We need his personality. It is important to win this game. It may be the most important game of the season and I will put pressure on my players. I want to see everything: character, personality, good play.”
Last season’s fixtures against Everton ended in a draw and the Toffees have drawn on their last four visits to Stamford Bridge. However, Ancelotti is more worried about his side’s recent poor form. The Blues suffered a shock 3-0 defeat by Sunderland at the
Bridge, followed by defeats to Liverpool and Birmingham and a draw against Newcastle.
Ancelotti was frustrated at the slump his side was facing, he spoke about lack of desire to win in his squad. He said,
“Everything was wrong. We weren't 100 per cent focused in the games we didn't win. In Birmingham, where we played very well, and at Newcastle, there wasn't a 100 per cent desire to win. You can have desire at 99 per cent but that is not enough.”
The Italian was confident that his side could improve their form, especially since John Terry and Michael Essien had returned. He added,
“Sometimes to move on from a bad moment, you have to do more than expected. We didn't do enough. We know this is a bad moment and it is not finished. We hope to finish it against Everton but it will be difficult against a very strong team.”
The Chelsea boss said a victory against Everton was essential, it would keep the Blues in the title race. He continued,
“A victory would resolve everything. Then we play three teams who think they can win the title - Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United. If we have December as we had November, it is obvious we will struggle to win the title.”
