Question:

Ancestry's new Drouin collection?

I've used the printed copies of the Drouin collection or decades. I don't know how they put it together, but after playing with it for a half hour, it's clearly got bugs. My great-grandmother is in the printed version. But searching for her under her name as printed in the bound copies, there's no sign of her anywhere. Wildcards aren't working. I already have all of the details from the original, but they won't pull her up. I did get it to pull up one of her sisters and a cousin. I did find her parents' marriage. but there are some serious typos in the transcription and it's not as intuitive as the PRDH.

Has anyone else fiddled with this "new collection" to see if there's a little beta testing needed before it's ready for primetime?

  1. Most collection are stuff they have downloaded from the internet. The best I know of is FamilySearch.org it's the file records of the Morman church. I have been doing genealogy for 30 years. I have applied my family to the Ancestrial file in the Morman church about 10 years ago, now I can find it anywhere on the internet. It has been downloaded to many sites that sell CD's with family history on them. You can download any info from the family search. However they don't list persons that are living or info that is less than 60 years old. This for living persons protection.

  2. as always, your question includes a helpful 'heads up'.  I thought I'd give it a spin, but I don't have the World membership, just the US.  The index is of little help to me, since I need the document to evaluate if it might be my elusive Clement Dauphinais.

I have run into index/ transcription issues with the usual ancestry searches.  Even the most useful online sources have their loopholes.

have a great day, G's mom.

    edit-

Beyond belief... Terry B noted my comment, and after 25+ yrs, she BROKE MY LONGEST STANDING BRICK WALL BY FINDING THE BIRTH RECORD FOR MY CLEMENT!

    I am thrilled beyond words...

  3. Hi Genevieve's mom

I tried to poke around with my family lines and got the following message:

Please note: 29 million names are now searchable via the new index. Searching may produce records that have not yet been indexed. Please continue to enjoy access to all historical images. With cooperation from University of Montreal, the remaining 8 million names will be available later this year.

So.... your people must be lumped in with mine and the 8 million other missing names :-)

    I hope this helps.
