Ancestry Visa for Ireland?

My .g grandfather was born in Dublin,migrated to South africa in 1919,never gave up his irish citzenship visted regularly.

His death cert. says his was an irish national.My grandmother was born In South Africa,but does she qualify as an irish citzen? if her father never became South African?

Am I eligible for an Ancestry Visa if she is?

  1. i think they changed this rule.  this would have been true,  yes,  like 10 years ago...but I thought they tightened up this rule.

  3. You must have a grandparent born in Ireland to qualify for Irish citizenship through ancestry.

  4. Hmmm - your grandmother should be fine as she is the daughter of an Irish citizen.

    You however may not be eligible as the eligibility does not tranfer to great grandchildren usually.  As far as I can make out your grandmother would have to have been entered on the register of citizens before you were born to make you eligble through her.

    Check with the Irish Embassy in RSA to be certain.

  5. yes thay changed the rules on this type of thing in 2001 but obv your grandmother married before that so therefore she is entitled to an irish passport n u are also

    though with new immigration laws you would have to do some tests and state your intentions first
