  1. As Sidney says , probably both of you have either a blue eyed bright hair colour ancestor, because both are recessive characters and it is really , really difficult  such a character comes out if it is not, in some way, present in both parents. Meanwhile is it also possible a (normal) genetic mutation: it is quite rare but, well, it happens, has always happened, will always happen.

Is it possible that both characters disappear after few months: many European babies are blond with blue eyes at birth, then their colour change to brown (hardly dark brown, but definitely brown)

  2. Probably both.  Blue eyes are recessive.  Your wife probably has a white ancestor also.

  3. Genes (recessive or not) come from ancestry, not like one or the other.  So, someone in one (both) of your backgrounds has blue eyes. You already know that you have Swedish lineage, assuming you have the documentation.

As the world gets more and more diversified, the time will come when few will be able to say that they are 100% anything.  Obviously, I am here because I love genealogy, and encourage everyone to do it. New babies often motivate people to get into research.

You may be interested in dna testing for both you and your wife, which shows genetic background, even if/when the paper records are not findable. Obviously, lack of paper records is common for many African Americans.

    Enjoy your new baby.
