Ancient Sands looking for a strong show in Galway Apprentice Handicap
Ancient Sands will be looking to make most of his good form in the Galway Apprentice Handicap in Ireland on Monday, September 10, 2012. He will have to outperform 12 other runners in order to win a cash prize of €5,520 in the end.
The young runner has not won any race this year, but this will be a great opportunity for him to break the shackles. He has got a very good stamina, which will help him do well in the 1 mile 4 furlong event.
The going has been described as yielding to soft, and the participants will be hoping that rain stays away from Galway until the race is complete. The weather has affected a lot of events this year, especially in Ireland.
However, things are looking good and the organisers will be hopeful of a clean race at the end of the day. Other than them, the spectators will also be expecting the weather to be good, so that they can come out to support their favourite runners.
Some of the punters might get encouraged to place bets in favour of Wrekin Rock, who has been performing well in recent times. He was victorious in his most recent race, but the conditions were different back then. He will be hoping for the track to get once again, which will out him in contention of a victory.
Looking at the current circumstances, the best chances appear to be with Ancient Sands, despite the fact that he does not have a very good record. However, his fans do not need to worry a lot about these statistics, as none of the participants have been in dominant form.
The four-year-old gelding has appeared in a total of 14 races, winning a couple of them whereas finished as a runner up on the same number of times. In addition to that, he has also secured the third spot once, which shows what he can achieve, if things go well for him.
The Ms Joanna Morgan’s trainee has participated in just one race at Galway and that proved to be a very good one for him. Although, he failed to win it, yet he secured the second place, which was good for him.
Young jockey, Sam James will be the one partnering Ancient Sands in the race at Galway.
