  1. Romans wiped them out on Anglesy Island with the Druids.

But more recently I think the Tudors had Welsh connections.

  2. Henry the VII was descended from Owen Tudor a Welshman.

  3. I am not sure about the origins of the Welsh royal family, but the last Welsh Prince of Wales, Llywelyn ap Gruffyd, died in battle with Edward III in the 13th century, during a war for independence, and Edward annexed Wales to the english crown.  His son Edward (later Edward II) was made Prince of Wales when he was sixteen, and the oldest son of the King of England has been called 'Prince of Wales' ever since.

When I was at school we had a history teacher who was a Welsh nationalist, and I remember him going ballistic when we watched the investiture of Prince Charles in 1969.

  4. There wasn't one.  Owain Glyndwr was a bandit.

  5. Before the Norman Conquest of Wales was completed in 1282, Wales consisted of a number of independent principalities, the most important being Gwynedd, Powys, Deheubarth (originally Seisyllwg and Dyfed), Gwent and Morgannwg. Boundary changes and the equal division of patrimony meant that few princes ever came close to ruling the whole of Wales. For a list of anicent Welsh rulers visit

Llywelyn ap Gruffydd (c. 1223 – December 11, 1282)—meaning Llywelyn, Our Last Leader—was the last prince of an independent Wales before its conquest by Edward I of England. He is sometimes called Llywelyn III of Gwynedd or Llywelyn II of Wales.
