Ancient gear golem question?

Im sure most of you know the card shallow grave but just in case this is what it does. Its a normal spell card and its effect is that both you and your opponent can special summon one monster from your graveyard in face down defence position. Ancient gear golem says he can't be special summoned. But couools you special summon him if he would be face down because then his affect wouldn't be active. I''m just wondering if the fact that it would be face down makes a difference.
