  1. All I can say is he was the pre-eminent sculptor of ancient Fifth Century Athens.  His most famous work may be the Parthenon Frieze, sculpted under his direction.

You sound like you're intelligent enough to sort it out.

  2. Phidias (or Pheidias; in ancient Greek, Φειδίας; c.480 BC – c.430 BC), son of Charmides[1] was an ancient Greek sculptor, painter and architect, universally regarded as the greatest of all Classical sculptors.[citation needed]

Phidias designed the statues of the goddess Athena on the Athenian Acropolis (Athena Parthenos inside the Parthenon and the Athena Promachos) and the colossal seated Statue of Zeus at Olympia in the 5th century BC. The Athenian works were apparently commissioned by Pericles in 447 BC. Pericles used the money from the maritime League of Delos to pay Phidias for his work.

  3. The instructions for your assignment probably include a list of things you have to include. Start there.

You can start with questions like who was Phidias?

    What were some his achievements?

    When did he live?

What was his life like? Try comparing his life to the general public. This will help you, get better marks.

Did he influence any other important architects/sculptors?

    Hope these helped.

  4. Any historical investigation start with analysing the sources for the topic you're researching. You can use the article in W. Smith (ed.), Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography and Mythology, Boston, 1867 (reference: W. Smith, art. Pheidias, in W. Smith (ed.), Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography and Mythology, III, Boston, 1867, pp. 243-255. http://www.ancientlibrary.com/smith-bio/... also see art. Pheidias, in Perseus Encyclopedia (1999). http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/pte... to find the ancient sources.

After you have gathered your source material, you can start checking them by reading secondary literature. A good article to start with is: A. Stewart, One Hundred Greek Sculptors: Their Careers and Extant Works, perseus.tufts.edu, 1999, selection 2.2.2. http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/pte...

    Good look with your studies.

  5. Wish I could help but I can't. Just wanted to say thank you for asking for guidance rather than answers as so many students on this forum do. You are obviously a high class student who will achieve much because you don't cheat. Good luck and I'm sure someone in here will steer you in the right direction..
