The Jackal walks away

Reality

…The lion sated, watches

… condor’s circle tightens.

… jackal snarls his laugh.

…carcass in midday sun.

…Life’s cycle, rightly done.

Bloodless Blood

…Fillies gather, nervous tics,

…shadowed eyes, always stare.

…‘Newcomer’, walking…enters.

…Cold the tongues lash and slash.

…Nice neighbors smile and wave

…as secrets spread, door to door.

…For ‘newcomers’ on their street,

…unknowns amongst the thorns.

…Pews reserved, pecking honored.

…Pay thee more…nearer God.

…‘Newcomer’ enters, sits in one,

…flagellation…kinder.

Finality?

…Yes, “life’s cycles” rightly done!

…We’ve come far from our caves!

…Bloodless blood we spill quite well.

…The jackal walks away,

…in disgust.

  1. on the money, Neon!  Well written, astute observer!

  2. Good for you, Neonman. You are a worthy member of our species. And your poetry is also worthy.

  3. ...be yourself

if you're a killer, then kill

a scavenger .... then wait your turn in the pecking order

don't dress it up and give your nature pretty words.

    Nicely observed.

  4. Your muse has returned the jackal, or is it the jackal always lies in wait.

Amazing words penned Neon, then is no end to the ancient lessons.

    "When Will They Ever Learn"

    again Bravo!

  5. I felt like I was running a horizontal race towards progress, rather than a vertical one.

  6. I see by the answers already given that we have many different opinions as to what is meant here.  I know the jackal is also another name for the devil and he does know much how people are as he tempts us with his lies targeted to our weaknesses.

I like your poem, it has a rhythm of life in it, for people in church.  Thanks for sharing it.  May God bless us all.

  7. Are you saying it's more polite to f**t in church than to spill bloodless blood?

I agree, and I bet Jesus would as well.

This is a good one; it's what I call a truism. Truisms usually turn my stomach too.

  8. This is what I think it means....

The neighbors are gorging with their talk. The irony is they go to church. Soon as the new comer enters "the flagellation" is the neighbors talk. The newcomer is the jackal? The jackal knows that those people are rotten......?

Ok Prof. please be easy on me. I raised my hand. I answered. Classmates please don`t laugh. I'm shy and hey at least I tried.

  9. Will we ever learn?  Your poem made me think this morning - lol.
