  1. Tax is money you pay to some level of government.  It is usually based on income, assets, purchases, or just by person.

"Tax season" is a phrase that usually is used to refer to the period when annual income tax forms are prepared and filed - in the US, January to mid April.

  2. Good question.  I think maybe it is a transaction fee.  Every time money changes hands you pay taxes..........

  3. Taxes are fees levied by one or more government entities on various activities to raise revenue to pay for government services.

It is an honor and a pleasure for the honest citizen to pay taxes, provided those who pay the taxes (that's us) are also empowered to elect the public officials who determine what taxes shall be levied and what services shall be provided.

In the USA the primary forms of taxation are income taxes, ad valorem taxes, and sales taxes.  There are a few others.

Income tax is a fraction of the income earned by individuals and organizations.  Ad Valorem ("to the value") taxes are computed according to the value of assets owned by citizens and organizations.  The most common example is property taxes paid each year on real estate, cars, boats, and other costly items.

Sales taxes are a percentage added on to the selling price of merchandise.  These are usually levied at the state level.

The whole idea of taxes is to provide a way for those who have benefited from the common well being (roads, dams, power lines, telephones, police, and other institutions) to help those who are still developing their lives to have the services they need.

There is lots of information on all these subjects available.  Your teacher or librarian can help you find what you need.
