  1. Can you explain what you're on about? I pay a mortgage, and get sick of people on this section hating me and accusing me saying that people who rent are 'lower class'.

I'd say renting is squandering money actually. But someone called Ger C accused me of having a go at 'lower class' people.

I've never said or implied that homeowners are superior.  I have slagged off welfare spongers but that's a different matter...

  2. It IS squandering money that was donated to help SEARCH for Maddie because the McCanns were on FULL PAID leave it was therefore completely UNNECESSARY and SELFISH to waste the money in such a manner. But then again when were they anything other than SELFISH.

    ||edit|| They WERE on full paid leave. You just fell for the spin.

  3. It isn't squandering at all.

Not paying the mortgage to cause the family to break down is not a wise use of money.

  4. No  it isn't as long as you have, or are buying, a property valued to suit your income and means. Only if you are buying a property you really can't afford  would you be extravagant.

  5. I believe the donations to the Madeleine fund were heartfelt and made to find that child.

Not to pay her parents' mortgage or to pay for their villa whilst in Portugal.  I can just see the headteacher commending the children at assembly - NOT 'well done children we're helping to find Madeleine' BUT 'well done children - we've paid one month of the McCanns' mortgage'.

What would any other normal average parent have done in those circumstances?  They'd be up sh*t creek without a paddle.

Received help from family?  Downsized? They had plenty of wealthy benefactors, why delve into public money.  Oh that's right - it was all legal and above board, because the fund isn't a charity, it's their own limited company.

They can do what they like - it's their own money.

They can still squander their own money and squandered it is.  ÃƒÂ‚£2m down the line and there's not an inkling on Madeleine on the horizon.  I wonder why.

All I can say is - the McCanns must by psychic - what a fantastic idea it was to set up the fund on the 12th May.  The week after the child went missing.

I'll leave you with Gerry McCann's own words about Madeleine's eye - '... it's an excellent marketing ploy'.  That says it all.

  6. I think the prob people have is, there are many family's in the world who are struggling to make ends meet and have serious issues affecting them. Yet they don't set up funds in the name of the cause of their anguish, then use the money for other things. There's a word for that fraud....I'm not saying the McCanns have committed fraud but looking in from the outside it's certainly borderline !! :)

  7. It isn´t.

But they will use any stick they can find to beat the MccCanns with.

  8. Kate and Gerry have a family with small twins and therefore need a home for these twins as well as a base to work from in their search for Maddie so its imperative for Maddies sake that the mortgage is paid. The money was given to the parents by the directors of that fund who also felt it important that they should reciece financial help during their 4 month stay in Portugal. Shambo seems to think that they were on paid leave. I would be interested to know just  where he got this information from. His head ?

  9. Technically it's not, but if it were me, and I had their salaries, my money would be going on FINDING my child.

That is not to say that I am attacking their wealth, merely that if they can afford a mark warner holiday, they can manage the payments too.

Have you seen the price of those holidays? I looked the other day because they're so family friendly, for me, the boys and their dad for a week would cost £4000 self catering!!!

EDIT: No but they were on full paid leave and if you can afford that holiday you clearly have money to blow.

  10. well its not squandering money - but i dont reckon people donating to a fund with the objective of finding a missing girl thought it might end up contributing towards two supposedly wealthy doctors' mortgage

as i said in the previous question - there is a lack of transparency in how this money is used, thats what i have a problem with, when were these mortgage payments made - (i genuinely dont know) but it was less than 6 months in, if it was practically at the beginning 1-3 moths, I doubt that they were broke and only had the option of dipping into the fund, and if they were broke - how did they make the mortgage payments after that date - as they were still in portugal not working (i think at least)

it is not a great concern to me - i didnt donate to it, they can spend it how tehy want, but DONT expect the public (who after all donated the money) not to have an opinion about how you spend it and DONT slap them down (like all the UK press editorials) when they say it is not how that money should be used

if you donated money to the tsunami fund (which i did) you expect a percentage to go on admin - which is acceptable, but if you feel some of it was used innapropriately (lets say to get a big celeb endorsement where the celeb demanded a big fee) dont you think you have a right to express your opinion ?

  11. It isn't.  It was only 2 mortgage payments and the fund was to help the family while looking for their daughter.  Personally I don't have a problem with it but many others have a problem with everything involved with the family.....what they say, what they don't say, what they wear, if they cry, if they don;t cry, even their faces.  I just don't get it.

  12. maybe your family just thinks you may be obsessing over the mortgage.

why not have a little fun also.

a plasma tv in the livingroom.
