End rhyme and internal line rhyme incidental, no set pattern.

Fire Wingeds

Regale, oh regale please, once again,

again, let us taste the words you say

lift us from these days of constant pain.

and sing to us of worlds far, far away.

“Far away”…the prophet began, “far away

was a land where fire wingeds ruled,

and people lived beneath ‘rocken’ doors.

until a day that noble knight arrived,

arrived, armed with lance and shield,

and with shield and lance he promised

a world of riches, a world of forevers.

For he would rid them of fire wingeds,

these fire wingeds rule he would sever

and he would cast them each and all to h**l.

To h**l, for surely they were demons!

And these people arose and gave song,

a song, joyous for this freedom’s gift

and the riches that he rightly promised.

But the joys turned to yokes of chains

as the chains were quickly shackled

and the true color of knight emerged

darkest black, emerged to ensnare them all.

Centuries passed and folk tales were sung,

sung of times when fire wingeds reigned.

when life was fair and honor ruled,

ruled over people in peaceful peace.”

The people paused the prophet and asked:

“Is not there some magic anywhere?

Anywhere some magic like this, to

help up arise and throw down our chains

these chains of shame to claim our lands!

Are there not any fire wingeds left,

fire wingeds to overthrow our demon?”

The prophet heard their pleas and spoke;

“And who among you would know,

know the true heart of the next savior?

Would you walk in blindness to hear,

hear golden bells that turn to chains?

Or would you write history right

right by choosing the path that’s right?

I would choose to follow no promise made

but the fire in my heart that lifts me.

Lifts me on wings of fire for then I…

then I would be truly, a fire winged

  1. I believe NM is lulling us into false senses of subliminal tranquility...I bet he has a closet full of these splendiferously spun tales

  2. Good poets cannot write without including internal assonance, meter and other poetic devices. It is in their soul. There is no such thing as "incidental" pattern when a poet such as yourself expresses anything in poetic form.

  3. Let me grab my rusty sword and chain-less armor and scurry to gather my companion. We'll drink warm ale and howl at the moon and mars, as we await those devilish demons of aerial flight. He shall go for the noggin and I'll chase the tail round and round until this battle of terra firma turns into a whirling dervish. We'll put a charge into that fire breathing monstrosity and cool his esophageal flame thrower...  although this may not have been your plan, it was certainly mine. I really love ruining a fire-winged's day.

...yea I could get into this, nice work neon...

note: one truly cannot be a firewinged unless he has a worthy devils advocate.

  4. Well done! (Shame one cannot underline and emphasize words here.)

Very prophetic, let's hope it comes to pass that your story comes to fruition (how I see it).

    Good, good, good, excellent!

  5. WOW! "The fire in my heart lifts me" After the awesome read, I was

glad to read that line, To keep the fire lit a flame through all that is.

Spell check tells me Wow! is shouting! Bravo!

  6. You drinking Red-bull this morning? No, really, I loved that ending. We can all be fire winged if we just muster the courage to follow our own passionate beliefs. Very Beowulf-ish, this tale. The people being enslaved to the knight for his deeds. The prophet showing the way to freedom by example.

Well, that's how I took it anyway.

  7. An epic with true magic...fire-winged one!  The rhyme and meter are interesting and add to the mystery of the piece.  Thanks for sharing this one.

  8. wow...i think i probably want to be you when i grow up. this was a great sunday morning read. reading your words makes me want to pen my own...thanks neonman.

  9. A fire winged neonman, now that`s a super hero, move over superman there`s a new hero in town.

He shines, he has wings, and he wins his battles with his words not with war.

    I loved it, beautiful write.
