Question:

And while I'm in Berlin, what's the best travelcard to get?

I'll be in Berlin from Sunday afternoon until Friday morning. What options do I have for travelcards or weekly/daily/three-day (etc) tickets? Which is the best value for money given the number of days that I will be staying?

I'd like to be able to go on trains (overground and underground) and buses. I need to be able to get out as far as Tegel airport (twice) and Wannsee (once), but other than that the travel will be around central Berlin.

I don't mind paying a little extra for the convenience of not having to mess around with ticket machines before every journey.

Where would I buy such a ticket? Do I have to queue at a window, or can I buy one from the machine?

Thanks!

  1. The best choice for you is probably a weekly ticket called 7-Tage-Karte (7-Day Pass). Price is €26.20 for the whole city of Berlin (i.e. zones A and B. Zone C is the surrounding area and not part of Berlin anymore. Tegel and Wannsee are both in zone B). You can buy it at any ticket machine located in S-Bahn (urban railway) stations, U-Bahn (metro) stations and Tegel airport (look for a yellow ticket machine with "BVG" on it) but not in buses I believe. It allows you to use any urban railway, metro, tramway and bus within 7 days after validating on your first trip.

Maybe one of the touristic tickets may also be interesting for you. They offer a discount on sights and museums. Check out this website: http://www.bvg.de/index.php/en/Bvg/Index...

A daily ticket is €6.10 and a ticket valid for four trips is €8.00. A ticket for a single trip is €2.10.
