Athletic Bilbao’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ander-Herrera-c5543 has appeared rather distraught after the Basque outfit were humbled to a 3-0 defeat in the showdown of the Europa League.
Marcelo Bielsa's men took up the challenge of their fellow La Liga outfit, Atletico Madrid, at the Arena Nationala in Bucharest on Wednesday, as the two teams met in the final of the Europa League.
Not only was the match significant because it was the final, it was also significant because it was the first all-Spanish final in the history of the tournament.
To the sheer dismay of the San Mames faithful, Los Leones suffered a crushing defeat in the match.
Although the match was remarkably competitive and Bilbao created a lot of goal scoring opportunities, the final score of the match showed otherwise.
A brace by the Colombian international, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Radamel-Falcao-c30276, saw Bilbao’s hopes go down the drain as the forward ensured his side a second title in three years.
As the match kicked off, the Indians were quick to make a mark and it took them only seven minutes to find the opener, as Falcao’s solo effort proved fruitful and he found the back of the net.
The Colombian’s second goal came in the 34th minute as Bilbao's defence allowed him time on the ball, which the attacker utilized to his side’s benefit.
Herrera has emphasized that he is utterly disappointed at the moment and stressed that now his team needs to focus on the Copa del Rey showdown against Barcelona.
While talking to reporters, the 22-year-old was quoted as saying:
"We're devastated. I suppose with the passing of time we'll see it differently, we'll feel proud. But right now there's only pain. The first goal did a lot of damage and we weren't able to get back on track."
Athletic Bilbao will lock horns against Barcelona in the final of the Copa del Rey on May 25th.
