Anderlecht striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romelu-Lukaku-c31672 to decide future by 5th June, hints at English Premier League move
R. S. C. Anderlecht striker Romelu Lukaku revealed he was prepared to make a move to the English Premier League, but only to one of the top Premier League sides.
The 18-year-old has been linked with some of the top European sides and is considered one of the most exciting upcoming young strikers.
Most notable amongst the top clubs chasing him are English Premier League giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. The Blues are currently favourites to sign Lukaku, with an offer of £18 million for the young forward.
Lukaku’s recent statement, admitting interest in a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 to play Champions League football goes on to confirm a possible move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Lukaku said while speaking to reporters:
“That could be so, yes. It is going to be one of the top two or three clubs in England, or else I stay at Anderlecht.
I want to leave because I want to score goals in stadia full of 50,000 people, and to play in the Champions League.”
While Lukaku has had a chance to taste European football with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 champions, Anderlecht have always been eliminated from the European competition at an early stage.
The striker made his senior debut for Anderlecht in 2008, but only went on to make one appearance. In 2009, he made 45 appearances in all competitions, with 11 of them coming in Europe.
Lukaku has made 94 appearances for the club since making his debut for them, scoring 39 goals and providing 14 assists.
While a move to England seems attractive, Lukaku insisted he would only move to a top three side or remain with current club Anderlecht.
He maintained that he would only be transferring to a top English club, where he hoped to earn his place in the starting line-up.
Lukaku revealed he was aware he would initially be allowed to start off with 10 to 15 minutes of play time at his new club, but hoped to extend that by giving a good performance.
The Belgian international continued:
“If I go to a top club, in the beginning I know I will be on the bench, sometimes playing 10 or 15 minutes.
That will be it at the start. But my goal is that, in those 15 minutes, I will grab my chance and do better every time so that, by the end of the season when it gets really important, and there are a lot of games, I will be ready.”
Lukaku has made it clear he intends to settle his future before Monday, which is when he sits down to take his exams.
Unlike many other stars, Lukaku does not wish to drag on the transfer speculation and gossip that will surely follow if he does not decide on his future soon.
Lukaku revealed he was planning to decide his future before the 5th of June, he said:
“I would like my future sorted out by 5 June because my exams start the following day and I don't want any other distractions at that time.”
Apart from his upcoming exams, Lukaku will be focused on the upcoming 2012 Euro qualifiers, with Belgium taking on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026 this Friday.
The youngster will be eager to impress the Turkey manager Guus Hiddink, who will most likely be taking over Chelsea coach in the summer.
The Dutchman has emerged as the favourite to replace Carlo Ancelotti, after the Italian manager was sacked at the end of the season.
