Anders Hansen fires a 64 to take the clubhouse lead at the UBS Hong Kong Open
Anders Hansen of Denmark made a strong charge to surge to the top of the leaderboard, midway through the second round of the UBS Hong Kong Open, after firing a six-under par 64.
The tournament is underway at the Hong Kong Golf Club. The field comprises some of the renowned and acclaimed names in golf from all over the globe.
Furthermore, the event is co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the Asian Tour, offering a prize fund of US$2 million.
The Dane started off his round on the 11th hole and carded birdies on the 12th and the 14th hole to reach the turn in two-under.
He then added another three birdies on the second, third and the fifth hole, and followed that with four par putts on each of the next four holes.
Hansen, who was the highest ranked player without a victory in the last year’s Race to Dubai standings, finished the day with another birdie on the 10th hole to match Javier Colomo’s opening-round score.
At the end of the day, he found himself settled for a seven-under par two-round score.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he stated that he was really pleased with his performance and expressed his wish to continue playing well in the last two rounds.
“I'm very, very pleased with the round,” said Hansen. “It's obviously very tricky out there - it's blowing and the wind is coming from all kind of directions, so it's a little tricky out there. It's difficult to hit the fairways and greens”.
“I played well. I played solid from tee-to-green, but you are going to miss a few greens and you are going to miss a few fairways, that's how it is when it's difficult like it is in any conditions. I just managed to keep it together and it was good”.
Michael Campbell of New Zealand, in the meantime, also joined Hansen, on top of the leaderboard, after birdying five of his first nine holes.
With nine holes left in his round, Campbell is in pole position to take the outright lead by adding more shots to his scorecard.
