Anders Kristiansen, Julie Houmann rise in Mixed Doubles event - Bitburger Badminton Open Update
Denmark’s Mixed Doubles team Anders Kristiansen-Julie Houmann continued with their top form and stunned Robert Mateusiak-Nadiezda Zieba in the final round of Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold on November 4, 2012.
This title match prolonged to 31 minutes before ending with 21-11 and 21-16 margin. Both contenders kept the audience intact with a splendid show of skills in local badminton complex of Saarbrucken, Germany.
Anders and Julie, who were underrated earlier in this GP Gold event, performed beyond expectations and wrapped this showdown in just two games.
The twosome of Robert and Nadiezda, who were the front runners in this race for glory, looked completely off colour as they failed to rise throughout this straight-set match.
In the opening game, the top seeded Polish duo started in perfect manner and it was felt that they will have a smooth ride to victory.
They prevailed in couple of uninterrupted rallies and established a decent lead with scoreboard showing 6-2 margin.
However, the opposing team showed a transformed character and struck hard to tip the scale in their favour.
Anders and Julie started the beating after 4-7 and gathered seven consecutive points to finish first half of the set with a respectable figure of 11-7.
After the mid-game break, they did not lose focus and widened the gap with 16-7 total. They made the best out of this edge and wrapped the first segment of this showdown with a staggering knock of 21-11.
The following game was full of drama as both pairs put all in their possession to achieve their respective goals.
The twosome of Anders and Julie was looking to finish this encounter in two games whereas the Polish team was trying to avoid a straight-set defeat.
Initially, Robert and Nadiezda were in strong position as they showed elevated craft after 5-5 and placed a mountainous figure of 11 before the half time.
At this stage, the Danish couple did not lose nerve and counter-balanced the situation in third quarter of the set.
They set the foundation of their dominance with 14-11 and then served notice of their supremacy with an overwhelming score of 21-16.
