Anderson Refuses ICC Vice President Position, Australia And New Zealand Continue Search
Sir http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Anderson-c67288 has declined the request to become the next International Cricket Council Vice President, a decision which makes the search and selection of a suitable candidate even more difficult following John Howards rejection. Anderson is a former New Zealand Cricket chairman and was considered the most suitable man for the job, after Howard of course.
After the ICC board’s rejection of Howard and the suggestion that Australia and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, his Australian counterpart confirmed that Howard was still their number one choice but they had begun the searching process.
Isaac and Clarke are said to continue discussions on the matter until the Cricket Australia board meeting, which is set to take place on August 13th. Howard’s refusal leaves Clarke having to step up and fill the role of the candidate for the job of the ICC Vice President, but it was stressed that there would be a high possibility of them trying to get Howard again.
Anderson was New Zealand’s first choice but was rejected in favor of Howard following the decision of an independent panel. Howard was presented as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Singapore-c3005 the members from six countries signaled their opposition and the ICC didn’t vote on Howard’s appointment, which would have confirmed him as president for two years, starting 2012.
When New Zealand learned of Anderson’s decision, Isaac revealed they were somewhat disappointed, “Unfortunately Sir John advised me that he is not available to be considered as a possible nominee,” however Isaac said said that talks were still going on with Cricket Australia and that they would soon find another suitable candidate. “The NZC board respects Sir John's position and acknowledges the outstanding contribution he has made to the game of cricket. We have recommenced discussions with Cricket Australia around a proposed way forward.” After being replaced by Howard, Anderson took other director positions and currently holds the position of the chairman of an agriculture business.
There is plenty of time to search for a new candidate since the decision doesn’t have to be made until the end of August but the Australian board is still angry about the rejection of Howard. Howard was vetoed by six countries because of his inexperience in cricket administration and his political links. A special meeting was held by Cricket Australia soon after the rejection of Howard, but it was decided that they would wait until next month to discuss the possible candidates.
In the meeting no new names were discussed, with the nomination being put off until August. “Jack gave a highly detailed debrief to the directors and one of the key things he stressed was that Australia and New Zealand were joined at the hip throughout this process,” a Cricket Australia spokesman told reporters. “They want to remain that way as they move forward.”
Cricket Australia’s chief executive, James Sutherland said that the decision of the ICC to reject Howard was “terribly disappointing”. “The process [of re-nominating a candidate] is something that needs to be done jointly between Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket. In time we will have a chance to get together and talk about the next step. At the moment John Howard remains our nomination.” Sutherland told reporters.
