Anderson Silva asserts fight against Georges St-Pierre will happen – UFC News
UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva believes a fight against welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will happen, as it is the wish of UFC president Dana White. Silva has previously noted that GSP is the only fighter that is up to his calibre and so
he would be excited to face him.
It should be noted here that GSP is making his ring return after almost eighteen months against Carlos Condit on November 17. His recurring injuries impeded him from competing in events on a regular basis. Despite the fact that his UFC career has not been
as regular as careers of other fighters, GSP is still regarded as one of the best fighters in the industry.
“I hope this is my next fight. We want to do a super-fight. I drop a little weight and he goes up a little,” said Silva regarding a fight against GSP in an interview with the Brazilian media.
“It is going to happen anyway, it is Dana White's wish. I think fighting him makes all the sense as well because he is a great name of the sport. As a UFC athlete I want to fight the best and St-Pierre is one of them. Then we try to put on a good show for
the fans.”
“I'm doing this fight only to give it to fans here in Brazil. The fight against Chael Sonnen should have occurred here, but there were issues that prevented it,” Silva said regarding his fight against Stephan Bonnar.
“I don't have any intention to continue fighting in this division. My category is 185lbs. Period,” he added.
Anderson Silva is regarded as one of the best mixed martial artists in the world today. The only one near his calibre is Jon Jones, light heavyweight champion. Silva maintains an undefeated streak in the UFC and he wishes to prolong it. The Brazilian ‘Spider’
wants to fight every fighter in the division to establish his supremacy.
As of now, young fighters like Michael Bisping, Chris Weidman and Brian Stann are eyeing Silva’s title. However, the Brazilian champion is looking forward to lock horns with welterweight division’s best fighter GSP.
