Anderson Silva believes Chael Sonnen has learned his lesson – UFC News
After defeating ‘The American Gangster’ Chael Sonnen thrice, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva believes he has taught the American fighter a lesson. Silva, who has always acted mature against Sonnen’s trash talks, believes the American Gangster has
now moulded into a better man, and that he has learned from his mistakes along the way.
“The barbecue at the house happened, but unfortunately he did not come,” said Silva regarding the barbeque party that he organised and invited Sonnen to it after defeating the American at UFC 148.
“It was a satisfaction, a sense of accomplishment. Brazil was placed where it really should be. Other athletes who are supposedly thinking about speaking ill of Brazilians and our culture, our people, will think twice. I think Chael has learned his lesson,”
he added regarding Chael Sonnen’s anti-Brazilian comments.
Chael Sonnen is known for his trash talking habit. He was able to get Silva, who usually does not talk much, to speak in rage. Chael Sonnen locked horns with Silva twice, and both the times he lost. The first fight was a close one, in which Sonnen was just
seconds away to defeat Silva. He had won 4.5 rounds of the fight but Silva was lucky to get hold of him in a submission to tap him out during the last few seconds of the fight.
Their last fight took place earlier this year, during which Sonnen was knocked out in the second round. He had promised his fans and his dying father that he would end Silva’s reign but he could not do it. It was disappointing to see a fighter like Sonnen
giving up so easily, especially after the hype he had created with his trash-talks against Silva.
At least Sonnen made the fight popular by throwing verbal assaults at Silva. The rematch between the two earlier this year became UFC’s biggest fight ever, in terms of pay-per-view proceedings.
Now, ‘The American Gangster’ is looking forward to take on UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. However, President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White believes Sonnen will have to go through a number of contenders if he wants the shot.
