UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has denied plans of challenging welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre at UFC 154, which will be held this Saturday on November 17 in Montreal. According to Silva, it is not his character to go upfront and challenge
someone.
Last week, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White claimed that Silva will be in the arena. According to White’s statement, Silva will challenge GSP for a fight, if the former wins. Georges St-Pierre will be facing interim champion Carlos
Condit. A win would lead him to a fight against Anderson Silva, while a loss would push him back in his career. It should be noted here that this would be GSP’s comeback fight after almost 18 months.
“I'm on vacation for the fight. I think we just come back at the end of next year ... I'm going to Los Angeles and then going to Canada for the fight of St. Pierre,” said Silva in an interview with Tatame.com. “I'm already going to be there to shoot a movie,
a feature film that I'll participate in with Lyoto (Machida). It's not my character to up and challenge anyone. I think it will not happen. I think not, I'm sure (laughs).”
Silva is currently rated as the best mixed martial artist specialist in the world. The only person that is capable of putting up a tough performance against him is GSP, and Silva knows this fact well. It was Silva who mentioned the possibility of a super-fight
against Georges St-Pierre following his second round knockout win over Chael Sonnen. According to Silva, GSP is the only fighter in the UFC who can give him a tough competition.
To Silva’s disappointment, GSP is yet not sure whether he will go for the fight against Silva or not. In an interview last week, GSP spoke of the fight, saying he is currently focused on facing Carlos Condit and so he cannot say for sure if he will face
Silva or not. GSP knows it well that his fight against Condit is an important. Therefore, he is trying his level best not to be distracted with future threats.
