Anderson Silva eager to fight Georges St-Pierre – UFC News
UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is eager to get his hands on welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre, who will be making his comeback after almost eighteen months.
Silva previously recorded that he will not be fighting until 2013 and that he is planning on to fight GSP. However, recently, he was scheduled to face Stephen Bonnar at UFC 153.
“I hope this is my next fight. We want to do a superfight,” said Silva to Brazilian journalists. “I drop a little weight and he goes up a little. It is going to happen anyway, it is Dana White's wish. I think fighting him makes all the sense as well because
he is a great name of the sport.”
Silva is currently being eyed by most elite fighters in the division, such as Michael Bisping, Brian Stann and Chris Weidman. However, Silva’s decision of not fighting until next year pushed everyone back. Now, they all are disappointed knowing that the
Brazilian ‘Spider’ is fighting Bonnar at UFC’s next event.
“As a UFC athlete I want to fight the best and St-Pierre is one of them. Then we try to put on a good show for the fans,” added the champion.
On the other hand, Silva has previously notified that the only reason why he is fighting at UFC 153 is for the fans. Since the event is being held in Brazil, Silva wanted to fight for fans in his hometown.
GPS is currently scheduled to face Carlos Condit at UFC 154. According to Dana White, President of the UFC, a win against Condit will decide if GPS will take on Silva or not. However, Silva has announced that he does not really care about GPS defeating Condit
or not. He, Silva, wants GPS by hook or crook.
Silva’s camp has been long insisting that the middleweight champion has defeated almost every elite fighter in the division, and that now it is time to try something new. Dana White has announced that a catchweight fight between the two is possible early
next year.
Most probably the fight between the two will happen, since it will be UFC’s first ever super-fight.
