Anderson Silva hints at a fight against Chris Weidman – UFC News
After listening to Chris Weidman’s cries, it seems like UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is up for a match against him. Recently, Weidman revealed that he feels cheated by Silva’s camp. He was announced the number one contender by UFC President Dana
White but Silva asserted he will not fight until next year. However, out of the blue, Silva agreed to fight Stephan Bonnar at UFC 153, which made Weidman feel the champion is ditching him.
“Everything has it's [sic] time. He'll have his opportunity to fight for the belt. Maybe I fight next before he gets the shot, I lose and he fights someone else,” said Silva when asked about a possible fight against Weidman.
“We don't know. I can fight Bonnar, lose and say: 'you know what, I don't want it anymore.' Or maybe I win and say, 'I don't want this anymore.' Or maybe drop to welterweight or move up to heavyweight. Anything can happen.”
Silva was speaking for Weidman in an interview with Fuel TV’s UFC Tonight, when he admitted that Weidman indeed is a great fighter. However, Silva is as confident as never before, especially after beating ‘The American Gangster’ Chael Sonnen, who has been
his toughest contender to date.
Silva’s last title defence fight was against Sonnen at UFC 148. It was one of the most highly anticipated fights of the year but it ended quite disappointingly. Fans and analysts were hoping Sonnen to end Silva’s long reign as champion but the American fighter
fell to the champion in the second round via knockout.
Silva is now scheduled to fight Stephan Bonnar at UFC 153. Even though the fight was made in a rush, Silva believes every fighter should get a title shot. Bonnar, who was about to retire, believes he now has the opportunity to end his career in a ‘fairytale’
way. Bonnar believes he can defeat Silva and let his career end with an epic victory.
As of now, things are not going as good as they once were for the UFC. The recently cancelled UFC 151 has had grave effects on the audience of mix martial arts.
