Anderson Silva nails Chael Sonnen in second round via technical knockout at UFC 148 – UFC News
Anderson Silva, the current UFC middleweight champion, successfully defended his title against arch rival Chael Sonnen, former UFC middleweight champion, by knocking the trash talker out in the second round of the five-round bout held on July 7, 2012.
The duo headlined the pay-per-view and in all aspects made the whole MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States shout out loud with great excitement. The main event was definitely an explosive one and somewhat portrayed the August 7, 2010
scenario.
Chael, just like his last clash with Anderson, started things off early. The aggressiveness of the American proud was evident from the fact that he collected his first take down within six seconds of the very first round.
The bout was definitely personal as Sonnen had raged Silva by disrespecting his family, nation and country. Silva was eyeing to shut Sonnen’s mouth once and for all and he did do so in the second round by unleashing a barrage of punches that literally shook
Chael’s head to and fro.
A bird’s eye view of the whole bout clearly shows that Chael dominated it but at the end of the day, as always, Silva did find a way to win the clash. Sonnen after the successful take down stood up and kept on pressuring the Brazilian champion giving him
not even an inch space.
The second round also witnessed Sonnen move forward with great aggressiveness and speed. Chael was definitely the one who during the whole bout, adopted the aggressive stance.
During the second round, Chael made a fatal mistake that eventually cost him the whole bout. Sonnen threw a back-spin fist which was swiftly evaded by the champion. As a result of the sheer force, Sonnen lost his balance and fell on the octagon mat.
Silva capitalised the opening and connected an explosive knee to Sonnen’s body. The damage was done since after that body shot Sonnen did not do much and just kept on taking the beating.
Eventually the bout-referee intervened and at one minute and 55 seconds, declared Silva as the winner and still the UFC middleweight champion. After the bout in a short media interaction, the always humble Silva again showed hospitality towards Sonnen and
stated, “Me and Chael are working hard for the people here. Chael disrespected my country, but it's fine. Yeah, I had big emotion. Let's show Brazil has manners – I want everyone to applaud Chael. If you'd like to have a barbecue at my house, I'd love to have
you over for a barbecue.”
The unfortunate Sonnen finally admitted that Silva is a true champion and commented, “They gave me the opportunity. Nobody owes me anything. I'm very grateful to be here and have the chance. He's a true champion, man. He got me with a good knee, and I've
just got to look at the tape.”
With this win Anderson has improved his resume to 32 wins in a total 36 bouts whereas Chael has received his 12th career defeat and third in UFC.
